Donald “Waz” Alex Wasilewski, 78, of Pleasant Plains, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on November 13, 1946, in Taylorville, IL the son of John B. and Aletta L. Voorhees Wasilewski and they preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by brother, John “Booboo” Wasilewski and a niece, Barbara Cody.

Waz is survived by his daughter, Cara Michelle Wasilewski of Nevada City, CA; son, Alex John Wasilewski of Pleasant Plains, IL; grandchildren, Skyler Rose and Emma Elizabeth Garvey of Nevada City, CA; beloved partner, Sharon Johnson of Springfield, IL; sister, Charlene Wasilewski of Springfield, IL; nieces, Martha Blackwell, Amy Mihalich, and Vicki Challoner.

He was a lifelong resident of Central IL and a graduate of Feitshans High School.  He then went on to serve our country in the United States Air Force. He was recently attending mass at Church of the Little Flower. He was also a longtime member of the Elks Lodge #158 and VFW 10302.

Waz was a private contractor and specialized in home remodels and he also worked at Lowes and Menards.

Waz loved his fishing excursions to Canada with his lifelong friend, Dan Troemper. He also loved his trips to California to see “his girls”, and especially loved sightseeing the Rocky Mountains. In his earlier years he would fish across Central IL and enjoyed a round of golf. He will be fondly remembered for his willingness to lend anyone a hand who needed it.

Private services will be held for the family and cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Celebration of Life: Hosted by the family from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Butch’s Tavern, 1247 N. 19th St., Springfield, IL 62702.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Skyler and Emma Garvey Education Fund in c/o INB.
