Loree A. Riggs, 81, of Rochester, IL passed away on May 2, 2024, from a Naval Military Service related illness. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Colter) Riggs, brother, Bruce Riggs of Youngsville, PA; sister, Becki Seymour (Gary) of Warren, PA; daughters, Amee Lee and Kristin Vaira (Joe), four grandchildren, Alexandria Stone, Catherine Lee, Allison Vaira, and Bix Vaira; and four great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Brooklynn, Madilynn, and Braxton.

Loree graduated from Warren Area High School in 1961 and received a BS in Ed. ('74) and MS in Ed. ('76) from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Submarine Program in 1964 and served as a Nuclear Operator on two Polaris Submarines and completed nine Polaris Patrols.

In 1974, Loree was employed as a Special Education Teacher in the Alton (IL) School District. He was also employed as a Special Education Specialist at Illinois State Board of Education in 1979 and was selected to serve as Executive Director of Illinois Governor's Purchased Care Review Board in 1986. He retired in 1994 and was employed as Business Manager at Willowglen Academy Illinois until 2016.

Loree was a member of Rochester United Methodist Church, United States Submarine Veterans, Inc., and American Legion Post 32, Springfield, IL.

Memorial Gathering: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Service: 12:30 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
