Robenette “Bobbie” Akers 93, of Springfield, died at 5:19 am, Monday, March 24, 2025, at her home. She was born January 18, 1932, in Petersburg, the daughter of Campbell C. and Laura M. Bergman Sorenson. She married Jay H. Akers on February 24, 1952, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1998.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Sherilyn Puschel.

Bobbie was survived by her two daughters, Sherrie Akers-Kunz (Mark Audi) of Pawnee and Jeanne (Steve) Dennison of Springfield.

She is also survived by her four granddaughters, Lindsey (Brian) Madden, Lauren Kunz-Albert (Shelby Smith), Kristin (Paul) Berry, and Lacy Kunz-Hinds; twelve great grandchildren; Dalton, Cheyanne, Jaymes “JC“, Skylar, Corey, Paul “PJ”, Kaycie, Leah, Jenna, Alayna, Ian, and Cavan and four great great grandchildren; Oaklee, O’Stin, Oliver and Harlow and several nieces and nephews.

Bobbie retired from the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid where she worked for twenty-five years. She previously worked for Franklin Life and ARCO.

She was a NASCAR and avid Chicago CUBS fan and enjoyed playing BINGO. She loved her family and her animals.

A family hosted Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
