Ruth I. Horner, 96, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home. Ruth was born on August 29, 1928, in Pana, IL, the daughter of Elzie B. Myers and Lila Jacobs.

Ruth is survived by her seven grandchildren, Shane (Patricia) Horner, Matthew (Sophie) Horner, Dustin (Nicole) Horner, Shannon Horner, Chris Laier, Nathania Laier; and Jordan (Brianna) Laier; fifteen great grandchildren, Brandon (Erika) Horner, Alex Horner, Anakin (Bella) Horner, Kayla (Ethan) States, Elijah Foster, Lathan Foster, Clayton Woosley, Chase (April) Horner, Mackenzie Horner, Lilah Horner, Abigail Horner, Nicholas Dillon, Jaxton Horner, Anastasia Horner, and Janessa Horner; numerous great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a few cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Donna Darling; son, Steve Horner; grandson, John Laier; siblings, Joyce Heck, Barbara (Art) Eskew, Andy Clutter, and Daryl Clutter.

Ruth served in the burn unit at Memorial Medical Center for 40 years until she retired. Upon retirement, she enjoyed many activities including gardening, sewing, and bowling. She also loved being involved in the Memorial Medical Center Retiree Club. Ruth was a faithful member of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul for many years.

Funeral Mass: 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Cathedral Church of St. Paul. with Very Rev. Andrew Hook officiating. A burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
