Sammy Charles Fettis, 82, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born on November 9, 1941, in Springfield, IL, to Emmett, Sr. and Millie C. Etheridge Fettis. He married Penny L. Constant on November 18, 1989 and she survives.

Also surviving Sammy is his daughter, Dennise Minor of Virginia, IL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two step-children, Roxanna (Sean Michael) Brown of Paragould, AR, and Ryan Brown of Lakeland, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emmett Jr., George, Dave and Rockney Fettis; and sisters, Janet Burris, Roberta Fishburn, Judy Vennass, and Cora Sue Fishburn.

Sammy served our country with the United States Marines Corps from 1961 – 1966. He then became an ironworker for Ironworkers Local 46 for many years before retirement. He was an active member of VFW Post 10302 on Stockyard Road and loved visiting with his buddies there.

Cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Graveside Service: 2:00 pm Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
