Sharon Rose Anne (Smith) Johnson, 76, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born in Springfield, Illinois on November 14, 1948, to William H. and Betty Rose (Davis) Smith, and they preceded her in death.

She grew up in Springfield with her loving brother Hal. She was a very devoted caregiver to her parents throughout their lives. Sharon graduated from Springfield High School in 1967. She attended LLCC and retired from First National Bank after more than 30 years of service as a financial supervisor, followed by twelve years at District 186.

She married the love of her life, Van Johnson, on January 3, 1998, and shared 27 joyous years together. Sharon was blessed with one daughter, Carla, who gave her more joy than she could have ever imagined. Nothing gave her more happiness than being with her loving family and she spent every possible moment she could with them.

She has three grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-grandson. Sharon adored them all. She and Van tried to never miss an event involving any of their grandchildren or family.

Sharon loved going to the movies, ballgames, and spending time with all her family. She enjoyed playing and watching sporting events including her grandsons ballgames and Anna's musical shows. She also loved traveling to St. Louis to watch the Cardinals, especially when Ryan, Connor and David were all working for the Cardinal field crew. She loved her daughter, all of her grandchildren and great-grandchild so much and never hesitated to tell them every single day.

She was a sweet, compassionate person with a huge heart that was kind to everyone. Her kindness and love truly shined at Christmas time. You could see the love exemplified by her Christmas décor and of course with all the presents under the tree.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Van; her daughter, Carla Fitzgerald (Dan); grandchildren, Ryan, Connor, Kyle, and Anna Fitzgerald; great-grandson, Matthew; her brother, Hal Smith (Meg); her wonderful stepdaughters, Gina House (Jim) and Melissa Murphy (Pat) and their children Whitney Scott, Jace House, Kayleigh House, Sean Murphy & Makenna Murphy - all whom she loved as her own. She is also survived by her loving niece, Elizabeth Lucin (Nicholas); nephew, David Reid (Becky); great-niece, Madison; and “brother”, Richard Garcia.

Sharon fought a valiant seven-year fight against Multiple Myeloma. Memorial contributions may be made to Simmons Cancer Institute at the SIU School of Medicine for cancer research.

Visitation: 2:00 – 3:30 pm, Monday, February 17, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Funeral Mass: 3:30 pm Monday, February 17, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Michael Friedel officiating.
